“After spending many years at Denso, what I felt by coming to Denso IT Laboratory is that this company has an atmosphere that is not typical for a Denso company. I think it’s because people think out of the box to conduct research here; there is a clear difference from Denso where the strength lies on solid manufacturing. I would like to continue valuing its atmosphere and style distinctive of a R&D company, and at the same time utilize the background and assets of Denso to our best advantage, so that we can link our research accomplishments to commercialization of as many products as possible.”
Denso established Denso IT Laboratory in Shibuya in order to conduct most advanced research of softwares. ●My role at Denso IT Laboratory
“Frankly speaking, there are not so many products which have been commercialized yet, even though we were able to make many proposals. It’s because there are many obstacles to overcome such as the time and cost. We are always required to offer new proposals for our customers: the car manufacturers. It is now most important to have further cooperation with Denso than ever. So far, we had been working in a way where engineers from Denso IT Laboratory introduce their research outcomes and prototypes to Denso, which are then proposed by Denso to car manufacturers. But from now on, we would like to start more interaction of human resources where we invite engineers from Denso to work with us so that prototypes are made together at once. By doing so, we would be able to conduct R&D which grasps the needs of car manufacturers ahead of time. My role is to create a comfortable working environment for our researchers and to fulfill their wish to deliver their research outcomes as feasible products into the market by bringing Denso and Denso IT Laboratory much closer”.

●The unique way of working at Denso IT Laboratory
“We accept people from all fields of technology, because we believe that innovation arises by mutation in a place where many technologies fuse together. In fact, we have researchers from various backgrounds. Inviting themes spring up spontaneously here, to which researchers from relevant fields of technology get together to conduct R&D. Actually, instead of having projects assigned by the company, we have an unwritten rule that one should always help fellow researchers when asked for assistance. It allows researchers to concentrate on their field of expertise: it’s a technical exchange, so to say. If you are not so familiar with certain technique, you can ask other researchers who are good at it. It fastens the speed of R&D and improves the efficiency as a result. A wide range of technologies are necessary in order to commercialize a product; thanks to this well-functioning circle of relationship, new ideas to realize people’s wishes are created one after another with the end-users’ perspective. This is why we seek researchers from a wide range of technological fields. The possibility expands further when a new member joins us to add another area of technology”.
Denso IT Laboratory is more like a laboratory at a college or graduate school than a company.
